Smoking in Public places..
I've realise that my posts are becoming increasingly 'blue' recently...but...this guy is a fucking tosser...

Spoking in public places is not a 'step to far'. It's a step in the right direction. Non-smokers should have the choice whether they want to inhale smoke or not - It shouldn't be up to smokers to decide this!

THE INTERNET IS SHIT
As are corporate intranet networks. Make the fucking things more relialiable you stupid cocks.
Somebody rings you and says "can you find out what we've done in regards to this" and you say "yes, of course....oh...actually....the network isn't working AGAIN!".
It's fucking useless. It's not good enough at all!
We can put a man on the moon (40 years ago) but can we make our networks work properly...no we can't!!
IBM, Sisco, Nortel, Microsoft...everyone. You suck!

Using church to sell movies...
That's disgusting. Imagine using the portal to our Lord to make money for film studios.
"Family orienatated bullshit" that appeals to the far right christians of America. Show's imagination from the film studios though...it's a shame it has to come to this though!
I doubt the new "Da Vinci Code" will use a similar tactic...although bloody good if it did!

Ghost Newspaper boys, postmen and residents
The BBC reporting on the onset of Hurricane Rita...
'Ghost Town'
A mandatory evacuation order in the island city of Galveston was rapidly observed and 90% of the city's 57,000 residents had left by Thursday afternoon.
The post in Galveston is standing in letter-boxes, newspapers lie on driveways and the rubbish waits for collection, the BBC's Daniela Relph reports.
If the town is deserted who is dropping off the post and the newspapers and more importantly who the hell is putting out the trash (or, more correctly, the rubbish!)

AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!
Fucking computers!! They're shit!
Why can't you fucking computer companies and software manufacturers stop making bigger, faster and better machinery and software and concentrate on making stuff that actually works!
Why is it when I log on to the internet it doesn't always work? Why is there always down time? Why do I have to restart my computer every now and again just to get software working? And don't go telling me it's just windows and Internet Explorer. Linux would have the same problems if it actually had any software to run on it and firefox is just pants.
If we could make the internet and computers more reliable (as in "on demand...oh...who said that? yes, you're just as fucking responsible,. if not more so, as everyone else!). On demand should mean on demand...not "on demand, but only when the servers are working, when we haven't got any planned downtime, your ISP is working, the page isn't corrupt, your computer is set to receive cookies and we haven't just decided to balls things up for once".
Why do I bother? What do they care. A long as they make money they don't care if the shit works or not!

I keep getting twinges of excitement...
But rather than having anything to actually look forward to, my body just wants to get drunk. That can't be right can it? It's not as if I want to spend time with my friends or have a good time...I just want to get drunk.

Although, the actual report paints a better picture...
To achieve the rapid expansion in renewable energy required by the 2010 target, the Department of Trade and Industry (the Department) introduced in April 2002 the Renewables Obligation. The Obligation requires all electricity suppliers to source a growing percentage of their sales each year from renewable sources. The scheme pushes up the demand for renewable energy, thus increasing the revenue that generators can earn which in turn encourages developers to invest in new generating capacity. Electricity suppliers pass the higher cost of purchasing renewable electricity on to consumers. The Renewables Obligation will cost consumers £1 billion per annum by 2010 rising to £1.5 billion per annum by 2015.
The Renewables Obligation is more expensive than the other mechanisms currently being used under the Climate Change Programme to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. These include promoting energy efficiency through the Climate Change Levy, which is paid by non-household consumers of energy, and controlling the carbon dioxide emissions of key industries through emissions trading schemes. The expense of the Obligation reflects the high cost of renewable generation and poor targeting of the scheme - around a third of the funds exceed the support needed by generators. The Department hopes that funding investment in renewables now will reduce future generating costs and thus the cost of each tonne of carbon dioxide saved. It has not established measures or targets to track the industry's progress in reducing costs, however, and consumers will not necessarily benefit if generating costs do fall.
See the following link for more of an insight into the report:http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmselect/cmpubacc/413/41304.htm
It's quite interesting. To reach the 2010 target set by the government, the cost will have to be absorbed (and accepted) by the public....and we all know what the public are like (see any article regarding the petrol prices). We're doomed!!
Take my money...
I don't mind paying more for this. Take the money I give the government that goes on farm/CAP subsidies and put it into this...Please...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/4250982.stm
By the way. CAP is shit and farmers get too much money from the government!

Less Tax on fuel?
Bollocks!
Profits at BP and Shell have been massive This year as a DIRECT result of high oil prices. What does this mean? That tazes are too high? No, it means that oil companies are making too much profit.
If the "less tax on fuel" lobby want to have prices of petrol reduced, they need to target the right people. Let's look at who is affected by the high prices of petrol:
Car manufacturer's - These are going to lose out when people stop buying cars
Car Hire firms - More people on public transport, less people hiring cars
Second hand car firms and car showrooms
So, to properly lobby for the price of petrol to be reduced, why not get these people on your side? These companies have money, and more importantly, power!
Suggestions for a research paper - see if the high price of oil has had any impact on the sales of cars (Both ford and GM have suffered as people buy cheaper imported cars...Maybe they have less money to spend on cars because of high oil prices? Any correlation?).
Just a thought....

High oil prices to last?
High oil prices to last?
Looks like the utility companies are expecting the price of oil to drop in the future. Has anyone noticed how all the companies are currently advertising their “price freezes”…well, if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. If the price of oil does drop over the next few years, and the freezes occur after the prices have already been increased (which they have) then the utility companies are out to make a killing. If the price of oil doesn’t drop, then they could lose a bit of money but probably not very much!
I’m such a cynic…

This just gets better and better..
"University graduate Elly Jones Hughes, 26, of Gyffin, Conwy, said: "I have a young daughter, and this is not the kind of thing I want to be walking past with her on the way to the shops. "I find it disgraceful that a company is considering coming to a quiet town like Conwy."
http://icnorthwales.icnetwork.co.uk/news/regionalnews/tm_objectid=15893410&method=full&siteid=50142&page=2&headline=fury-at-sex-shops-plan-name_page.html
What the hell does going to University have to do with it? Well, I suppose is quite rare for someone to have a degree 'round there...
I've got to admit. I don't think they should have one in Conwy, just because I don't think the demand is great enough and because it's a small historic town full of boring tourists. Now Llandudno...Bring it on! Why this seedy little part of Britain hasn't had a sex shop already I don't know...I just wish I had thought of it! Jesus, they might want a manager? I would look right at home.....hmm....Considering the news I received today, that might be something to seriously consider! How mum would be proud!

paedophiles, perverts and rapists
Related to the Conwy sex shop...check out this site that is very much in support of sex shops in general....below is a snippet:
"In a letter to the council she [Georgia-May Quinn, 12] says: I am writing to you to tell you how strongly I oppose the idea of having an adult shop in Altrincham. If we let these people have their way and get their filthy shop then we let something terrible happen. This shop will attract paedophiles, perverts and rapists. As well as the fact that the crime rate may rise, we will be letting children in the community get contaminated. Altrincham will become an alleyway of crime with strange people hanging around when children are walking home from school as it is a direct route from Loreto Grammar School which I attend. I do hope you take my points seriously and help me crush the people who are giving Altrincham a bad name."

Bring on the porn in Llandudno
Give those big old boring conservatives in Llandudno something to get excited about...bring on the sex shop!
It angers me that people get annoyed by things like this. Fucking "anti-liberalness". I wish 'Liberal' meant conservative, because it's so much easier to say "fucking liberals". Bible bashing right wing christian shit heads. Knobs.

Whey! Sex without the worry..
It seems that UK scientists (scientist? What kind of word is that? What is a scientist? A geologist is a scientist but I wouldn't let one near my pacemaker!) have been the first to create a 'virgin baby' by forcing the egg to split without the need for sperm.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4228992.stm
Now, women will rejoice in this as it means that we can get rid of men for good. But if you think about it, what it actually means is that men can have 'the snip' then have as much sex as they want without worrying about getting someone pregnant.
Yes, I Know, wearing a condom also avoids SDTs etc...But with a long term partner...Whey!!
And yes, I know, I haven't had sex in so long...So what difference does it make!

I dream of travelling...
...but i cant seem achieve the right amount of commitment required to save money. I spend more than i earn and hate my job. In fact, i hate working full stop.
When i started this job in january i said to myself that 2005 would be a right off as i would spend the year saving money and paying off my debts. I'm actually worse off now than I was in january.
It now looks like travelling is off the agenda for 2006 too. In 2006 i'll turn 25 - at 26 you are on longer eligible for cheap flights and cant get working holiday visas!
Fuck!

Free research for all...make it so..come on...
I hated the day that my Athens password stopped working. Although I wasn't a student anymore I used to enjoy reading various articles on online journals and having access to the most recent scientific research. There is nothing worse than having to read a watered down version of something...Especially when the person writing the article regarding the research tries to 'ascertain' something from the work!

Apple really is shit..
Apple is all about hype. Yesterday they launched the "much anticipated" phone with integrated 'ipod'. The phone plays a maximum of 100 songs regardless of the memory card installed (it comes with a 520mb card).
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4223938.stm
Amazing.
I have a sonyericsson K750 which plays MP3/MP4/WAV as well as videos etc. It can store as many songs as I can get on a memory card up to 2gb. Sonyericsson also recently released the W800... The first walkman phone!
I also own the sonyericsson P900 which will play pretty much any format (apart from WMA)...and it's successor (the P910) will allow you to install a 2gb memory card.
Apple. All hype as per usual.
It's also made my motorola..who are widely known to be a shit mobile phone manufacturer.
Makes me mad. Everyone - buy a sonyercisson.

It seems that some people have nothing better to do than scroll through blogs posting bollocks spam comments. Automatic blogging is annoying enough (when an on-line 'bot' scours the internet posting things automatically) but these people just piss me off.
I may have to take that navigation bar off I suppose...But I like it...Some of the blogs you can get to are great...hmm.

And the home of widgets...

Expect to see these things integrated more into the next windows (codenamed 'Longhorn', but changed, which is a shame as Longhorn is a good name...)

Well, who would have thought it? Massively hyped on-line gaming company floats on the stock exchange and a few weeks later its share price tumbles?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4217990.stm
Are investors stupid? It was perfectly obvious from the start that this would happen. Maybe the investors weren't stupid as they knew that buying shares when it floated and then selling them pretty much straight away would make them a lot of money. And I suppose the company's owners didn't give a toss because they were out to make a fortune on the initial flotation. But what about the people who are losing out and all the people who seem "surprised" by this?
Partypoker is one of many (and I mean many) on-line gaming sites offering the same thing. They are not offering anything unique and not even something that people really 'need'. It's not like they have a product that is revolutionary and everyone wants. Just like any other gambling site (or web site for that matter), not everyone that signs up will actually spend any money!
This "smacks" of the doomed freeserve flotation a number of years ago. People bought into it thinking "this is amazing, look at the subscribers". But what were they offering? Free internet access....Every ISP soon followed and freeserve were no longer unique. They didn't even make people sign up to twelve month contracts. Yes, they had advertising revenue...but who the hell was going to see that? If someone downloads Freeserve's personalised web browser then they may see the freeserve home page when they surf the net....but this is easily changeable and no doubt most subscribers had changed to having the BBC web site as their home page in no time.
Why do investors and the media fail to see the downside to these on-line companies? Amazon is quite different in that it actually has 'assets'. It owns warehouses and has stock and also sells products that people want and will continue to want when fashion changes. Google is also different in that people can't avoid the adverts it displays.
I have nothing but respect for the owners of partygaming who, two months before the flotation of partypoker, launched a massive advertising campaign designed to increase subscriber numbers....This data they could then use to lure prospective investors (hey, look...If it stays like this then we project that in a year...etc etc...bullshit bullshit bullshit...)
To the investors in PartyPoker who lost out...Fools! You bloody deserve it for being so bloody stupid! You can look at your projections and your statistics all you like...But why not step back and look at the reality!

ManBags???
Shit, not only are men applying moisturiser now...But apparently they are also carrying stupid bags!!
Some fashion labels are not only making money out of selling stupid sun-glasses and bags to women...Now they'll be targeting men!
Look, big bags look stupid and ugly on women...They're just going to look even worse on a bloke. Not that a "bloke" would wear one. More a Ponce.

I take it Chevrolet in the UK is actually just Daewoo? So that means that Chevrolet is a GM brand...Not ford...Odd.
Anyway...A quick search on the net is bound to confirm this...
(Why have I started 'thinking out loud' on my blog...I must be bored!!)

How enterprising...
Here, an article from the BBC telling how the UK is to sell China an "environmentally friendly" power station that burns coal but pumps the CO2 emissions into the ground...

Me thinking..."hmmm...Is there nothing we could do with that CO2??"
And, of course....Someone has already thought of this...And managed to use it to get EVEN more fossil fuels!!

Great stuff.

Call off the search
I've just realised that all of you reading this may have been worried about my stapler and putting out "APB's" all over the place for it....Forgot to tell you that I actually found it in the end (one of my colleagues had put it in her drawer as she thought it was hers..Can't see how as mine has a black top and a metal bottom while hers has a metal bottom and a black top!!).
I feel bad now. Like someone who has reported their Christmas gifts as stolen (ala Simpsons) and then gets loads of gifts given to them...Only to find eh gifts are hidden in the attic.
If anyone has spent any great amount of time looking for my stapler and has gone through a particularly traumatic time, please let me know and I will do my best to make sure you are duly compensated. Perhaps I could provide you with some staples or even some drawing pins?
Here is a picture of my stapler back in pride of place on my desk (and no, this isn't just the same picture as before just mirrored!! Well, OK, it obviously is, but do you think I'm going to sit here all day taking pictures of my stapler?!!?).
